Good mulch does a lot of heavy lifting in a garden. It retains moisture, suppresses weeds, regulates soil temperature and breaks down over time to improve soil health, all things that matter in SEQ's hot, dry summers and heavy subtropical downpours.
At Arborsafe Tree Services, our mulch is produced directly from our tree removal and pruning work across Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast. That means it's locally sourced, sustainably produced and available in bulk or bagged quantities to suit any job, from a weekend garden tidy to a large commercial landscaping project. HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR GARDEN NEEDS MULCHING
Mulch breaks down over time, so even well-maintained gardens need topping up regularly. Here's what to look out for:
- Bare or exposed soil in garden beds that dries out quickly after rain.
- Weeds taking hold in areas that were previously clear.
- Plant roots becoming visible at the surface, indicating the soil needs insulation.
- Soil that compacts or crusts over after heavy SEQ downpours.
- It has been more than 12 months since you last mulched.
- You have recently completed landscaping, tree removal or garden bed work that needs finishing off.
If any of the above sounds familiar, call Arborsafe on 0418 197 006 for a free quote on bulk or bagged mulch delivery across Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT MULCH SALES IN SEQ
Have a question about buying or ordering mulch in South East Queensland, including Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast? If you don't see the answer below, get in touch with our team for a free quote.
What is mulch used for?
Mulch is used to cover the surface of soil in garden beds to retain moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature and improve soil health as it breaks down over time. In South East Queensland's climate, mulch is particularly valuable during the hot, dry summer months when exposed soil loses moisture quickly, and during heavy downpours when it helps prevent soil erosion and compaction.
How much does mulch cost?
Mulch costs vary depending on the type, quantity and whether you need it delivered. Bulk mulch is generally more cost-effective than bagged mulch for larger jobs. Arborsafe Tree Services offers competitively priced bulk and bagged mulch delivered across Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast. Call us on 0418 197 006 for a free quote.
How deep should mulch be?
A depth of 75mm is ideal for most garden beds. This is deep enough to retain moisture and suppress weeds without smothering plant roots. Avoid piling mulch directly against the base of plants or tree trunks as this can cause rot and pest issues. For garden paths or larger landscaping areas a slightly deeper layer may be appropriate.
What is the best mulch for garden beds?
For most garden beds in South East Queensland, a coarse wood chip mulch works well as it breaks down slowly, retains moisture effectively and handles the region's heavy rainfall without compacting. Finer mulch suits beds with smaller or more delicate plants. Our team can advise on the best option for your specific soil type and plants when you get in touch.
How often should you mulch your garden?
Most gardens benefit from a fresh layer of mulch once a year. Mulch breaks down over time, so topping it up annually helps maintain the ideal depth and keeps the benefits consistent. If you notice exposed soil, increased weed growth or soil drying out quickly after rain, it is likely time for a top up regardless of when you last mulched.
Does mulch attract termites?
Wood chip mulch can attract termites if it is placed directly against timber structures such as fences, decking or the base of your home. To minimise this risk, keep mulch at least 150mm away from any timber structures and avoid piling it against tree trunks. Our mulch is produced from green waste collected during arborist work across SEQ and we are happy to advise on safe application when you order.
