Do You Need Council Approval?
Most trees on private property across the Gold Coast are protected under the City Plan's vegetation management rules, so it pays to check before you cut. Broadly speaking, a tree is considered assessable vegetation, and needs a development approval to remove, if it's over 4 metres tall, has a trunk over 40 centimetres around measured at 1.3 metres above the ground, or forms part of mapped remnant, regrowth or wetland vegetation.
There are some common exemptions where approval usually isn't needed, including trees close to an existing boundary fence or approved building, within 1.5 metres of a pool fence, identified as a pest species by a Level 3 arborist, or found to be dangerous by a council Level 5 arborist. These exemptions don't apply on body corporate or community title land, so it's worth checking your title type first.
Removing assessable vegetation without approval is a serious offence under Queensland's Planning Act, with penalties running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for individuals and more for companies. It's not worth the risk. Our arborists can assess your tree, tell you where you stand, and help manage any council application if one's needed.

Do I need council approval to remove a tree here?
It depends on the tree. If it's taller than 4 metres, has a trunk wider than 40 centimetres around, or is part of mapped bushland, it's likely classed as assessable vegetation and will need approval. Some exemptions apply, such as trees near an existing fence line or those confirmed as dangerous by a council-level arborist. We can check this for you before any work starts.
How much does tree removal cost?
Small trees typically start from around $250, medium trees from around $700 to $2,000, and large trees or those needing crane access can run from $2,000 up to $5,500 or more. The exact price depends on size, access and location, so we always recommend a free quote for an accurate figure.
What's the difference between tree lopping and tree removal?
Tree removal takes the whole tree out, roots and all if you choose stump grinding too. Tree lopping cuts back overgrown or risky branches while keeping the tree standing, which works well for otherwise healthy trees that have simply outgrown their space.
Can you work near powerlines?
Yes. Trees near powerlines need extra care and specific equipment, and our arborists are experienced working close to power infrastructure across the Gold Coast. Depending on the job, we may also need to coordinate with the local energy provider before starting work.
Do you handle emergency callouts after storms?
